Combating Terrorism - How you can help prevent acts of
terrorism
North Wales Police, together with police forces
throughout the country, is better trained and equipped than ever
before to combat the threat of international and domestic
terrorism. You, the public, can play a key role in supporting the
police, not just in the major cities but across the country as a
whole.
We ask people to try and identify suspicious behaviour.
We want people to look out for the unusual - some activity or
behaviour which strikes them as not quite right and out of place in
their normal day to day lives.
We ask that members of the community and the business world
remain vigilant and report any worrying activity, and any behaviour
that is out of place or any action that raises concerns.
The important thing is to report any concerns you have to us and
we can use our specialist skills to make that assessment for
you.
Just one piece of information could be vital in helping disrupt
terrorist planning and, in turn, save lives.
- Terrorists need storage - Lock-ups, garages
and sheds can all be used by terrorists to store equipment. Are you
suspicious of anyone renting commercial property?
- Terrorists use chemicals - Do you know someone
buying large or unusual quantities of chemicals for no obvious
reason?
- Terrorists need funding - Cheque and credit
card fraud are ways of generating cash. Have you seen any
suspicious transactions?
- Terrorists use multiple identities - Do you
know someone with documents in different names for no obvious
reason?
- Terrorists need information - Do you know
someone taking an interest in security, like CCTV cameras for no
obvious reason?
- Terrorists need transport - If you work in
commercial vehicle hire or sales, has a sale or rental made you
suspicious?
IF YOU NOTICE SUSPICIOUS BAGS, BEHAVIOUR OR VEHICLES WHICH
POSE AN IMMINENT THREAT YOU SHOULD CALL 999
IMMEDIATELY
You can use the confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline to report
concerns about terrorist activity on 0800 789
321.
Alternatively you can call our non-emergency number: 101
(in Wales) or 0845 6071002 (from outside Wales)
What else can I do to help prevent acts of terrorism?
Report Terrorist Content on the web
The internet is used by some people to promote terrorism and
extremism.
The Government and police are committed to protecting the public
from terrorist content online, but we cannot do this alone.
Everyone who uses the internet can help to make it safer.
To report terrorist content on the web, go to

Secure your Fertiliser
Terrorist groups around the world have for many years used
fertilisers to make explosive devices. The majority of these
devices have contained ammonium nitrate based products, combined
with other materials to produce explosives. Other fertilisers such
as urea, potassium nitrate and sodium nitrate have also been
misused.
Even in relatively small quantities, ammonium fertiliser-based
explosives can cause a great deal of destruction. Many of the most
notorious terrorist attacks of the last 15 years – from Oklahoma
City to Oslo - were carried out using fertiliser-based explosive
devices.
If you use, hold or
transport fertiliser, visit www.secureyourfertiliser.gov.uk
Report suspicious maritime and coastal based activity
Coast Watch Wales is an
initiative designed to enhance the security of the Welsh coast line
and identify both vessels and individuals engaged in suspicious
maritime and coastal based activity.
Such activity could be linked to smuggling, organised crime and
terrorist activity.

Report suspicious aviation activity

Project Pegasus - Strengthening our
Borders is an initiative that has been adopted
by multiple agencies across the UK. Its aim is to encourage
people who work within, live near to or participate within the
aviation community to be extra vigilant for signs of criminal,
illegal immigration or terrorist activities.
