Cold callers warning
28/12/2012
Police are urging people to be wary of cold
callers.
The warning comes following a report of four
instances of cold calling in the Prestatyn and Meliden areas over
the past weeks.
On each occasion men and women have called at
addresses stating that they were collecting for cancer research.
They then asked for bank details and also to use the toilet.
PCSO Michelle Williams explained that
vulnerable older people living alone were being targeted by the
callers, who claimed to have had permission from the council,
eventhough this was not the case.
“No bank details have been given on these
occasions as all the residents were very aware of cold callers and
called the police,” she said: “But we want to reiterate the message
‘If in doubt keep them out’.
Trading Standards are aware and will conduct
searches in relation to the group.
