DVD highlights consequences of using fake ID

Police have joined forces with a local school to highlight
the consequences of using fake ID to get into pubs and clubs.
Pupils from Ysgol John Bright and NWP have produced a DVD
showing what can happen to those who pretend to be over 18.
Conwy Coastal Inspector Ian Verburg said “We work closely with
local licensees and when the opportunity came up to do something
like this we thought it was an excellent idea.
“Pupils are actually featured in the film and it shows what
happens to someone who pretends to be 18, they get arrested and put
in a cell (this can happen as a last resort) and they are also
banned from pubs and clubs when they turn 18. The person supplying
the fake ID is also banned.
“The DVD is quite hard hitting and since it was launched last
month we have been approached by other forces who are interested in
doing something similar.”
Conwy Chief Inspector Jane Banham said “The message is
definitely getting across and we now have very few reports of young
persons using fake ID in the Llandudno area.
“This positive action is an example of the way in which the
police and our partners are enforcing the licensing legislation to
achieve the specific objective of protecting children from harm and
reduce alcohol related crime and disorder on our streets.
“The initiative is available across the whole of Conwy and
Denbighshire and we are also hoping to roll it out across the rest
of our force in the near future in conjunction with the Community
Safety Partnership. “
