Update tweet arrests
North Wales Police confirmed this morning that the three
individuals arrested as part of their investigation into the naming
of a rape victim on a social media site have been released on
bail.
They have all been bailed pending further inquiries to a police
station in north Wales after being questioned at Sheffield Police
Station. North Wales Police are also consulting with the Crown
Prosecution Service.
DCI Steve Williams leading the investigation said that further
arrests are planned and will be made in the forthcoming days.
ACC Gareth Pritchard said that North Wales Police wanted to
re-assure victims of serious sexual offences that they were
determined to support them and would seek to safeguard the
anonymity of victims in rape cases.
“We are also reminding people of the legal position and that if
anyone publishes the victim’s identity they could face
prosecution.”
