North Wales Police are appealing to walkers to avoid dangerous mountain walks after being informed of six separate incidents today, Saturday February 7th in the Snowdon and Glydir Fach area.

At 16:44hrs, Police received a call reporting the body of a deceased male on the Snowdon range. The deceased has been confirmed as a 27 year old man from the Shrewsbury area.

Police also received another call at 16:44hrs, informing them of two males from a party of four who had fallen while walking down the mountain. The party is thought to be local and in their twenties. One of the party was stranded on a cliff ledge and appears to be uninjured, and the other had received serious injuries during the fall. He is currently being treated at Ysbyty Gwynedd, but his injuries are not elieved to be lifethreatening. The remaining two members of the party, one male and one female, were stranded on the mountain. All four were flown to safety by a RAF helicopter in a joint operation with the Mountain Rescue Team.

In the nearby Glydir Fach mountain range, at 16:11hrs, Ogwen Mountain Rescue were called to reports of a man who appeared to have fallen down while descending the mountain, suffering head injuries. Mountain rescue walked him down the hill and transferred him to Ysbyty Gwynedd.

At 17:48, they were then called to a female aged 27 from the Manchester area, who had fallen and was suffering from an ankle injury. She was walked down the mountain and treated at the scene for her injuries, before being transferred to Ysbyty Gwynedd.

Llanberis Mountain Rescue later also searched the Snowdon range for two males from a party of nine walkers, who were reported missing during their walk at 19:24hrs. They were found safe and well in their bunkhouse.

They later attended to reports of a walking group in trouble, which fortunately transpired to be a false alarm.

North Wales Police and the Mountain Rescue Team are advising only experienced climbers and walkers with axes and crampons, and knowledge of their correct use, to contemplate scaling mountain ranges in the current weather conditions. They are also appealing to members of walking groups to make arrangements with friends and family to ensure that if they are missing for any period of time, the Police or Mountain Rescue Team should be informed as soon as possible. Walkers should also ensure that they have a mobile phone on their person, and that they tell their contacts their planned route and which vehicles they would have access to during this time.
