Saint David, or Dewi Sant as he's called in the Welsh language, is the patron saint of Wales. His day is 1st March.
His influence is shown in the number of churches dedicated to him in Wales and the celebrations each Saint David's Day.
Colwyn Bay Celebrated this day with a walk involving the Mayor,Councillors and local school children from the area through the town waving flags and wearing daffodils.
A large locally made figure of Dewi Sant lead the way followed by the drummers and a record number of around 900 school children. The walk finished at St Pauls Church were there was a service and singing from each school.
Local police were in the area to assist with traffic and maintain safety for all those involved.

In his last sermon David told his monks to "do the little things, the small things you've seen me doing".
Archbishop Rowan Williams thinks that phrase resonates with modern people because...

On 29th January, 2010, Mr and Mrs Hancock, an elderly couple from the Glyn Estate, Colwyn Bay, were subjected to a distraction burglary, whereby a young male attended their home claiming to be from the water board and stated there was an emergency and he had to check their water. Unknowingly, whilst the male enter the kitchen with Mr and Mrs Hancock a second person entered their home and stole £400:00 from their bedroom which they had saved up over several months to buy a new mattress for their bed.
Understandably, the incident left Mr and Mrs Hancock distressed, scared and penniless. They could not bear to sleep in the bedroom in fear of persons re entering their home and resorted to sleeping upright in their living room.
As expected, the community pulled together and supported Mr and Mrs Hancock through the harrowing experience and helped police with their enquiries. 'PERFECT DREAMS BED AND FURNITURE STORE, 77ABERGELE ROAD, COLWYN BAY' were kind enough to provide Mr and Mrs Hancock with, not only a new mattress, but a brand new bed as well.
Mrs Hancock stated "I CANNOT BELIEVE PEOPLES GENEROSITY AND I AM TRULY SPEECHLESS. EVERYONE HAS BEEN SO KIND, I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE HAVE DONE TO DESERVE THIS. PERFECT DREAMS REALLY HAVE TURNED THIS NIGHTMARE INTO A PERFECT DREAM"
Mr & Mrs Hancock would like to thank the local community who have provided them with support and assistance, North Wales Police who, whilst conducting a thorough investigation, have offered reassurance and support ensuring they are safe and well cared for, Conwy County Borough Council who have improved the safety of their bungalow, friends and neighbours and last but not least, Perfect Dreams for their overwhelming generosity.

Mochdre Ward is a ‘village community’ orientated Ward and is a varied area to police.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team is committed to tackling Anti-Social Behaviour and confronting criminalality, that can have a detrimental impact on the Community. However, this can also be addressed by residents via the ‘Balance your Bobbies’ initiative; details of which can be found on the North Wales Police website. By using this facility you can let us know what is important to you. Your priorities will then be passed to the local Neighbourhood Policing Team to action.
We have been working closely with the Conwy County Borough Council Anti-Social Behaviour Referral Group that has resulted in several Anti Social Behaviour Injunctions (ASBI’s) being gained.
Building work is continuing on the new Youth Club facility at the Mochdre Village Hall. This will be an invaluable asset to the community and is eagerly anticipated. Funding is also being sought for other initiatives to be held within the Village. These include the new Beavers and Brownies groups. Further details can be gained via the Mochdre Village Hall information board.
We would ask that any suspicious behaviour be reported via the new non emergency telephone line of 101 or 0845 6071002. If an immediate response is required then please call 999.
Please report any suspicious behaviour in your area at the earliest opportunity.
POLICE SURGERIES
We hold weekly police surgeries. These take place every Wednesday between 4pm and 7pm, at the Mochdre Community Police Post, Village Hall, Old Conway Road, Mochdre (Pending any operational necessity). Members of the public are welcome to attend to discuss matters in confidence. If the issues are not of a direct policing matter, then we will be able to best direct you so the matter can be resolved.
We also hold quarterly community meetings. The next one is scheduled for Monday 19th April 2010, at the Village Hall. This is an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions or voice any concerns affecting their quality of life. Also attending are specialist guest speakers that can professionally comment on, and offer assistance in finding a solution to those concerns.
Many thanks.
Pc Rob Darnell.

Residents of Sandy Cove, Kinmel Bay rolled up their sleeves and tackled the litter on their estate and promenade this week. Working in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy, North Wales Police and Conwy & Denbighshire Youth Justice Service, local residents and children gave up their free time on Sunday and removed 30 bags full of litter from the estate.
This is a regular event in Sandy Cove, organised by PCSO Sabrina Beedham, with residents working hard to tackle the litter found on their greens and down alleyways, as well as on the promenade and beach. Ceri Morris from Keep Wales Tidy commented “It’s great to see so many people keen to improve their environment with such enthusiasm. It’s a shame that we have to clear up litter dropped by those irresponsible few in an area where so many people clearly care about their environment. In addition to the usual drinks cans and bottles, we were surprised to see evidence of flytipping such as old bicycles and garden waste.”
The Tidy Towns project supports the people of Wales to improve the quality of their local environment and over the next 3 years it is hoped that the project will lead to a Cleaner, Safer, Tidier Wales.
Keep Wales Tidy project officers are based in communities across Wales and provide expert advice and support. They encourage communities to adopt their local area and assist volunteers to undertake a range of environmental improvement projects, including; litter picks, path maintenance, improving disabled access, developing community gardens and habitat management. Small grants are available to cover project costs.
If you would like to join a group or want more information on Tidy Towns please contact Ceri Morris on 02920 381736 or email ceri.morris@keepwalestidy.org

Rhiw Ward is a large and varied area to police which incorporates a large section of Colwyn Bay Town Centre, West End of Colwyn Bay, Colwyn Heights as well as the rural areas of Bryn Y Maen and the Nant Y Glyn Valley.
Your Neighbourhood Policing Team is continuing to work extensively at tackling Anti-Social Behaviour, ranging from everything between criminal damage, drug taking/supply, graffiti and drunken youths as well as littering and dog fouling.
I have been working closely with the Anti-Social Behaviour Order Unit at the Council and as a result we have had recently 2 successful Anti-Social Behaviour Orders served on Sharon Lynne Williams and Austin Morgan who had been causing continual problems and concerns for retailers and members of the public in and around the town centre.
Unfortunately, I have to report of a spate of burglaries during the month of February which have occurred in the areas of the Colwyn Heights and the West End of Colwyn Bay.
Following extensive investigations by a variety of departments within the organisation suspects were identified and arrested in connection with the incidents.
‘Please report any suspicious people in your area at the earliest opportunity’.
POLICE SURGERIES
Since September 2009, Police Surgeries have been introduced in Rhiw Ward replacing the previously held Quarterly Police Meetings.
They are held monthly and offer the public a greater opportunity to meet their Neighbourhood Policing team to discuss key issues specific to their area.
These have proved successful and I thank all those who have attended.
I shall continue with these surgeries which will take place at either the Colwyn Heights Community Centre or the Baptist Church on the corner of Princes Drive/ Hawarden Road in Colwyn Bay.
Details can also be found advertised in the local press.
If you want to speak to me then please pop in at one our monthly surgeries the dates and times are listed below;
11th March 2010 – Princes Drive Baptist Church, 10:30 – 12:00hrs
15th April 2010 - Colwyn Heights Community Centre, 10:30 – 12:00hrs
13th May 2010 - Princes Drive Baptist Church, 10:30 – 12:00hrs
17th June 2010 - Colwyn Heights Community Centre, 10:30 – 12:00hrs
However, the surgeries are not the only opportunity for you to contact your Neighbourhood Policing Team.
By utilising the recently advertised BALANCE YOUR BOBBIES you can let us know what is important to you and your responses inform your local Neighbourhood Policing Teams of key issues specific to your community.
You may contact me or Sgt Kirkham by using the contact details below or leaving messages for us to contact you should we not be on duty.

For those of you who have not heard of The safety Group, students and staff from the performing Arts Course at Coleg Llandrillo will be visiting Primary schools across the County.
On Thursday the group visited Ysgol Maes Owen In Kinmel Bay, to an audience of about 200 pupils. The group did a fantastic performance based on road safety, Cycle Safety, Fire and Anti Social Behaviour.
All the pupils enjoyed the performance and during my foot patrol on the school run later on that day all the pupils were still talking about it.
Big thanks to the group from all at Ysgol Maes Owen, PCSO Sabrina Beedham and PCSO Chris Donaldson.

FEBRUARY 2010
Well it looks like we’ve seen the last of the frosty mornings and long dark nights and we can now finally start to look forward to the warm, hopefully dry! sunny days ahead.
Now seems like a good time to reflect on some of the hard work that was carried out in your area over the past few months, and bring you up to speed with what challenges face us over the coming months.
I’ve no doubt many of you are aware of your Neighbourhood Policing Team’s (NPT) priorities, but just in case…
Your NPT are working extensively to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour (ranging from everything between drunken youths in the area, criminal damage, drug taking/supply, graffiti etc), as well as littering, dog fouling and problem tenants/landlords.
Your NPT have also been involved in conducting numerous warrants on your ward, 11 of which have proven positive for stolen property, and drugs supply of class A and B controlled drugs. One search warrant revealed a major Cannabis factory which had links to a large scale drugs ring that led to numerous arrests across the country. The factory would not have been located if it wasn’t for your PCSO’s who came across a ‘strange smell’ in the area while conducting foot patrols!
In addition to the warrants, your NPT have been working closely with the ASB Unit at the council, and landlords. As a result, a total of 10 evictions of problematic tenants have taken place which have had a great impact on the community. Another 2 are imminent and I have a long list of problem addresses that I am in the process of tackling.
We have also had 1 successful Anti-Social Behaviour Order served on Daniel Matthew RICHARDS and another 4 applications are being processed.
The re-deployable camera has been reinstated on LAWSON ROAD at the entrance to the Eidelwise Hotel, and will remain there for the foreseeable.
Unfortunately, it sickens me to report a distraction burglary which occurred recently on The Glyn Estate. The offenders, who stated they needed to check the water/taps urgently, targeted a couple in their late 80’s and made off with £400:00 in cash. Thankfully, no harm came to them, but understandably this incident has left them shaken up.
ALL RESIDENTS ARE REMINDED TO ALWAYS ASK VISITORS FOR IDENTIFICATION – IF YOU DON’T KNOW THEM, ARE NOT EXPECTING THEM, DON’T LET THEM IN!!!!
Please also report any suspicious people in your area at the earliest opportunity. We need to find out who these people are and deal with them!
The summer months will, I’ve no doubt bring us more challenges. If you want to speak to me, and/or other members of your NPT, then please pop and see us at our monthly surgeries held at THE BAYVIEW CENTRE – the dates and times are listed below…
FEBRUARY 16th (Tuesday) 12pm – 3pm
MARCH 16th (Tuesday) 10am – 1pm
APRIL 20th (Tuesday) 12pm – 3pm
MAY 19th (Wednesday) 10am – 1pm
JUNE 23rd (Wednesday) 12pm – 3pm
1st March 2010 will bring another CBM to the patch (no, I’m not leaving!) but to work with me in making The Glyn Ward a safer and more pleasurable place to live and visit. I’m sure you will all join me in welcoming PC2228 Scott MARTIN – some of you will already know him as he has worked as a response officer in Colwyn Bay for several years).
I, personally, would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your help in tackling some of the issues I’ve listed above. Without you, we would be fighting a losing battle. You are the eyes and ears of the community and I know together we are making a difference.
Any residents who have information they wish to pass to the Team can do so on the numbers listed.
Best wishes,
Siân PC2596 (m. 07896173484)

Litter...What Litter???
Having walked around Chester Avenue in Kinmel Bay recently I noticed that the amount of litter on the estate has increased over the last few weeks, so to tackle this I arranged a litter pick linking in other agencies.
With the help of Lynne Dunkley and Jennifer Dutton of Communities First and Ceri Morris of Keep Wales Tidy we held a litter pick event on Sat 23rd January.
The event was a great success with a fantastic turn out, with a number of young people volunteering their time to help tidy the estate up.
During the morning litter pick we managed to collect 6 bin bags full of rubbish and educate local residents on littering, which was a task in itself!!

During my recent patrols of the area since this event I have unfortunately noticed the issue is arising again. So with the help of Cartrefi Conwy we will be working together to tackle this unsightly issue and looking at the houses responsible. It is local resident's responsibility to ensure that litter isn't left on their property.
On a policing enforcement side I am able to issue a £75 fine to anyone I see littering, and please be warned that I will be doing so if I witness any persons dropping litter bringing down the appearance of the area.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
PCSO 2804 Sabrina Beedham, Kinmel Bay

Restricted Cold Calling
We are pleased to report that recently Penrhyn Beach Estate became the largest Restricted Cold Calling Zone in North Wales. This was as a result of numerous calls from concerned residents who were experiencing Cold Callers at their address.
This was a joint enterprise between North Wales Police, Crime Prevention and Trading standards.
Due to the large number of dwellings within the area, all requiring the relevant packages, we are hugely grateful to Cllr Ann Yates and her volunteers who assisted in the delivering of these packages to each address.
New Telephone number for Non-emergency calls
We are aware that there has been recent publicity in relation to the new telephone number in order to contact the Police Control Room for Non-emergency contact. We wish to take this opportunity in reminding you that the number is ‘101’ You will agree that this is a lot easier to remember should the need arise.
We wish to re-iterate the importance of calling the Police at the time of an incident, to enable us the best possibility of resolving issues, or dealing with those causing concern.

BLOT ON THE LANDSCAPE
Since the new year I have tried to get out and about in the area on foot as much as possible, on the whole the village is looking tidy, but I must comment that one area that has become an eyesore is the vicinity of the old ruined house in the Fairy Glen Woods, at present in partnership with other agencies we are trying to make this area up to the standard of other areas of natural beauty in the Old Colwyn Area. Anyone who would like to volunteer to help or has any ideas on improving this area please contact myself or Martyn.
APPEAL FOR INFORMATION
Both myself and Martyn believe that Old Colwyn is a wonderful place to work and live, please help us to help you by informing us of any information that you may think will assist us to keep the neighbourhood crime free, however big or small you believe the incident to be please let us know.
EXCITING TIMES AHEAD
At present I am engaging with Colwyn Bay Football club, the Seagulls are going to be launching some new initiatives aimed at getting youngsters off the streets, not sure whats in the pipeline but watch this space or for further information please visit Colwyn Bay website (Community News). http://www.colwynbayfc.co.uk/home.php#
