  • Rhuddlan Disability EVA

Thanks to the assistance of Damian Plant an Eva was conducted in Rhuddlan. Damian was keen to see what Rhuddlan was like from his point of view.

Through out the visit and along with Pete Evans the village community officer and Chloe Davies the diversity officer, Damian visited various shops and sites.

He was impressed with wheel chair access in many of the shops and on attending the “Table Table” restaurant on the new Morfa View site was shown hospitality in the form of free refreshments.

Damian went on to say, he would recommend Rhuddlan to anyone to visit.

  • Rhyl Neighbourhood Policing Team - Brownie visit

On the evening of Monday 08/02/2010, PC Sarah Spencer & PC Tim Edwards attended the Rhyl Scout Hut, Ty Newydd Road, Rhyl.

We had been invited to give a talk to both groups of brownies by Brown Owl, Linda Clewes.

We spoke to the asembled brownies about personal safety & stranger danger. We also spoke to them about how & when to call the Emergency Services & what each Emergency Service's role is. We spoke about the 999 system & misuse of it.

We then answered questions and interacted with the groups & presented each brownie with a Stranger Danger pack, containing information & activities for them to complete.

The brownies had had a fundraising competition & we were asked to present prizes to individual winners in various categories, which we happily did.

We shall be arranging a visit to the Air Support base for these groups towards Easter time.

  • Christmas lunch for the Rhyl elderly

On 18th December Bedford St Community Company in partnership with NWP held their annual Christmas Party for elderly residents in Rhyl. Over 50 residents enjoyed a traditional christmas dinner cooked by PCSOs Fiona Davies and Odette Rollinson Davies and an afternoon of entertainment courtesy of DJ Mike Silver.  Raffle prizes were donated by Bedford St and NWP and Neighbourhood Watch provided crime prevention packs and security items such as personal attack alarms. Organisers were ably assisted by members of Rhyl Neighbourhood Policing team who served meals, chatted with residents and provided crime prevention advice.

The photographs below show masterchef's Fiona and Odette, together with some of their hungry patrons!

  • Prestatyn East Ward Residents Street Meet / Smartwater Kits

On the afternoon of Thursday 28th January, PC 2503 Richard Evans, CBM for Prestatyn East Ward and PCSO Suzanne Wharton accompanied Housing Estate Officer John Makinson of Denbighshire County Council to conduct a mobile surgery for residents of the council flats on Caradoc Road, Prestatyn. The aim of the afternoon was to canvass residents opinions and identify any ongoing issues which could be resolved by Prestatyn Neighbourhood Policing Team and / or Denbighshire Housing Services.

It was also an ideal opportunity to dispense some crime prevention advice to the residents and give out some SMARTWATER Kits to residents. We arranged to assist the residents with marking up and then registering their property with SMARTWATER to ensure that if items are ever lost or stolen and subsequently recovered, it can be reunited with its rightful owner.

The afternoon was a great success with residents welcoming the visit from the local officers and Housing Services. On the whole, there were very few complaints from the residents. Some incidents of anti-social behaviour around the Christmas holidays were raised however these have since been addressed with the issuing of Yellow Cards.

This was an ideal opportunity for many elderly and immobile residents, who aren't able to attend Community Meetings or don't have access to the forums on the North Wales Police website, to have access to their local Neighbourhood Policing Team to raise any concerns or issues.

Pictures are attached (hope they are ok) and show Housing Estate Officer John Makinson and PCSO Suzanne Wharton handing out a SMARTWATER KIT to local residents Mr and Mrs Braund.

    Many Thanks

    Richard PC 2503 Evans

  • Prestatyn Officers "Lock up kids bikes"

On Wednesday 20th January Pc 2563 Ben Edwards and Pcso Rowley were investigating a theft of a mountain bike from Gronant Road, Prestatyn.  The bike belonged to a young male who was using the local POP IN centre, Meliden Road, and didn't own a bike lock.  To prevent further incidents the officers decided to try and assist the young man. They went to Halford Store Rhyl and purchased 5 bike locks to be used by the centre.

Halfords store also kindly donated a further three locks free of charge.  Below is a picture of the officers handing the locks over to the centre manager Jonathon White.  These locks will be kept at the centre for all people using the facilities to secure there bike and returned after use and will hopefully prevent a similar incident occurring again.

    Safer Homes Initiative

As part of its strategy to prevent both domestic and non-domestic Burglary across rural North Denbighshire and following public demand, the North Denbighshire Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team will be operating an initiative over coming months which will involve regular patrols of properties known to be unoccupied including those that are such on a temporary basis.

As part of this initiative we encourage persons living or working in the rural policing area to inform their local Community Beat Manager or Police Community Support Officer of any premises that will remain unoccupied for a period of at least 72 hours.

Upon contacting your local policing team you will be asked to confirm details of the premises in question as well as the length of time the premises is likely to remain vacant for. Further details such as a nominated point of contact will also be requested.

This information will then be collated and added to a list of properties that will be routinely patrolled by your local policing team to ensure that they are secure. Contact cards will be posted detailing what times and dates patrols have been conducted whilst the premises have been vacant.

If you are away on a holiday or trip we encourage you to take advantage of this service which will assist in reducing incidents of Burglary and will provide you with peace of mind.

The North Denbighshire Rural Policing Team cover the geographical areas of St Asaph, Rhuddlan, Dyserth, Tremeirchion, Rhuallt, Cwm, Bodfari and Bodelwyddan. • Safer Streets Initiative DE4

    Safer Streets Initiative

As part of its continuing work to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour the North Denbighshire Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team will be conducting its ‘Safer Streets’ initiative over the coming months.

The initiative will focus on plain clothes police patrols targeting persistent Anti-Social Behaviour issues within the Rural North Denbighshire community that have not responded to directed uniform patrols.

The purpose of the initiative is to assist in detecting those responsible for such behaviour and to bring them to justice. The patrols will be targeted based on intelligence and information received from members of the public.

High-Visibility police patrols are still very much a priority within the team however we must also recognise a need to change tactics when the situation calls for it. To that end plain clothes patrols will be utilised with officers taking to the streets at certain dates and times in line with intelligence and information received from the community.

The North Denbighshire Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team encourages all members of the community to assist us by reporting issues of Anti-Social Behaviour to your local policing team. Details of your local policing team are available on the North Wales Police website.

The team cover the geographical areas of St Asaph, Rhuddlan ,Dyserth, Bodelwyddan, Cwm, Bodfari, Rhuallt and Tremeirchion and can be contacted via e-mail at NorthDenbighshireRuralNeighbourhoodTeamDE4@nthwales.pnn.police.uk

  • New South West CBM - PC Steph Ball - takes to the Slopes with PCSO Phil Roberts

Hello all, I'd firstly like to introduce myself as the new Community Beat Manager (CBM) for Rhyl South West Ward.  I am looking forward to meeting you all in the future and would like you all to keep checking the blogs as we have a very busy year planned ahead of us which I'm very excited about.  Yesterday, Sunday 17th January 2010 I had the opportunity of accompanying Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Phil Roberts to the Plas Y Brenin National Mountain Training Centre that includes an outside dry ski slope.  Here we met with a group of local youths from the Rhyl Adventure Playground Area (RAPA) on Rhydwen Drive Estate in Rhyl.  This was the last of 4 training sessions that Phil has been holding with them, it was a great afternoon which ended in them all receiving a Level 1 Skiing Certificate.

It was even nicer for me to be able to watch from the side and take photos….they make it look so easy but I'm not convinced!!  As you can see from the photos they all did very well, there were a few that could not make it which was a shame but I'm sure they'll make up for it on the next sessions that Phil intends to hold.

The first of the photos shows myself and Phil together with the successful particiants and their well deserved certificates.

Present this time were Thomas (crazy legs!) who took a small tumble but was straight back on which was more than what I would have done!  Stuart and Cadir who both did extremely well, even going from the top!  They were all being escorted by Leanne from RAPA who did not join them on the slopes this time but assured me that she had previously.  I like to say thank you to all involved and look forward to more lessons in the future, I may even be persuaded to join them myself but we'll see!!

Bye for now, PC 2554 Stephanie Ball.

  • Information stalls at Rhyl Town library

Throughout December last year the Rhyl Neighbourhood Policing Team and Darran Gardner, the Denbighshire Neighbourhood watch co-ordinator set up a stall in the Rhyl Library. The stall was staffed by members of the Neighbourhood Policing team for an hour a day, and when unstaffed, the public were still able to take home information and leaflets pertaining to all manner of crime prevention subjects such as personal/home protection; vehicle crime and also information about becoming a Neighbourhood Watch member.

The information and attendance appeared to be well recieved from the public that were spoken to and there are further plans for a similar venture later this month.

Pictured below next to the stall are PCSO 2866 Phil Roberts (South West ward) and Darran Gardner.
