Here at North Wales Police we take equality and diversity seriously, both within the organisation and in the communities we serve.
We have a Diversity Unit dedicated to ensuring that through policy and practice, all staff understand how discrimination can take place.
Our services respond to the diversity of our local communities and cultures, by engaging with them and understanding their specific needs. In this way we are able to police more effectively.
The Equality Act 2010
The Equality Act 2010 represents the culmination of years of debate about how to improve British equality law. It offers individuals stronger protection against discrimination. It gives employers and businesses greater clarity about their responsibilities. And it sets new expectations that public services must treat everyone with dignity and respect.
Our responsibility in exercising the Policing function is to have due regard to meet the need to:
- Eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimization and any other conduct that is prohibited by the act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who don’t;
- Foster good relations between persons who share relevant protected characteristics and persons who do not.
The act gives the force an opportunity to demonstrate its continued commitment to ensuring that all our communities are treated fairly.

North Wales Public Sector Equality Network (NWPSEN)
NWPSEN have the following mission:
To mainstream and advise on equality across North Wales through shared objectives, collaboration and facilitation.
Equality Advisory Support Service (EASS)
The Equality Advisory Support Service (EASS) provides information advice and support on discrimination and human rights issues to individuals in England, Scotland and Wales, recognising the constitutional, legal, social and policy differences, specifically:-
- Advise what the Equality Act 2010 says and how this applies to you;
- Advise you of options on how you may be able to resolve your issue;
- Advise you of options for informal resolution and guide you through this process;
- Assist you further, if you are unable to resolve your issue informally;
- Help you work out if you are eligible for civil legal aid ;
- Provide support if you are considering making a claim yourself;
- Assist you in finding local sources of support.
