Applicant: Denbigh in Bloom
Title: Temple bar gardens
Area: Denbighshire
Amount Requested: £2,500.00

Project Outline:

Our project at Temple Bar Gardens is aimed at supporting safer neighbourhoods. Many residents have commented how much safer they feel walking through the gardens now there are no longer groups hanging around drinking and taking drugs. People aren’t feeling intimidated in the area in which they live, and this project also helps those unable to garden to still enjoy a beautiful and relaxing area. By maintaining the area deters anti-social behaviour.

As well as new mum’s taking their babies in their prams older residents enjoy walking through the gardens and taking some rest on the benches we have provided.

We believe that having people taking an interest and taking responsibility for the garden means that we are able to deter anti-social behaviour before it begins with the support of local PCSOs.

This funding would enable us to continue our work in Temple Bar gardens and in Denbigh town itself and continue our award-winning work.

Applicant: CERRIGYDRUDION Ffrindiau Cerrig Friends
Title: Cerrig Community Social Transport
Area: Denbighshire
Amount Requested: £2,500.00

Project Outline:

FFrindiau Cerrig Friends was set up in August 2018 to run social activities in the village of Cerrigydrudion to provide opportunities for people of all ages to meet up, socialise, and form new friendships. This was to combat loneliness and isolation.

We would like to develop our provision and help people access services and facilities outside the village. However, a major barrier to participation is transport - people often struggle with even short local journeys if they have poor mobility, health conditions and disabilities, or if they are unable to run a car due to cost.

Whilst we have developed an informal lift-sharing scheme on a small scale to help residents get to our activities, we now want to develop this further into a social car scheme and recruit local people as volunteer drivers, using their own-cars or hired minibus' to give neighbours lifts to medical appointments, to the shops in Llanrwst, or further afield to supermarkets in Denbigh, Ruthin, Llandudno Junction and Deeside, as well as supporting people to access other local activities and groups. This funding would enable to make this happen.
