Applicant: CAIS (Wrexham Homelessness Prevention Project)
Title: Wrexham One Love Choir
Area: Wrexham
Amount Requested: £2,500.00

Project Outline:

Wrexham One Love Choir is a ground-breaking initiative that combats social isolation using the ensemble effect of singing together. At the sessions, people come together to sing and share a hot meal. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their situation, background, or life story. Improving positive social networks and relationships that are flexible and supportive are crucial in addressing issues such as homelessness prevention, poor mental health and substance misuse. Social reintegration and access to an effective recovery community is known to significantly increase the likelihood of sustained positive outcomes.

This project helps to build a safer community by reducing levels of crime on the streets of Wrexham. Since its inception in May of last year we have engaged with many of the Visible Vulnerable in Wrexham Town Centre and have a core group of Service Users from the Homeless/Roofless Community who participate on a regular basis.

Choir members often describe our choir as 'family'. It's so much more than just a group of people coming together once a week to sing - they are also a life-changing support network and a huge catalyst for positive change

2. Vulnerability (assisting with reporting mechanisms with trust and confident to report matters, safeguarding and general crime prevention advice. This is to include crime prevention pop up shops, specific events in locations decided by the SNT’s. It was agreed that the crime prevention pop ups would provide advice and availability of people to purchase items to safeguard their own premises)

4. OWL will feature as an important cog in the machine to delivery Safer Neighbourhoods for Wrexham County

5. OWL will help in bringing Hotels, bed and breakfast establishments, caravan parks/sites on board from a county lines perspective and assist the SNT’s target OCG’s. It will also assist the police to manage the risk to the most vulnerable in targeting CCE/CSE

Area: Wrexham
Amount Requested: £2,500.00

Project Outline:
Your Space is a Charity based in Wrexham; offering a range of activities for children and young adults with autism and related conditions.
These activities include :-

  • Young Adults,
  • Ball Skills,
  • Social Clubs,
  • Climbing Wall,
  • Expressive Arts,
  • Family Swim and
  • Siblings sports sessions.

We also run holiday club during school holidays to keep the children active.

We are based at Llay Park Resource Centre but also run sessions from Splash Magic in Plas Madoc.

We meet with families regularly at our parent support sessions and we often hear about the stress and anxiety caused by anti-social behavior stemming from family members on the Autistic Spectrum. Social isolation and mental health problems often result from not being able to access support in the community as it is often lacking. Consequently, police are being asked to intervene when behaviour escalates out of control or families visit A&E as a last resort for help.

Title: The RCF Extra Time project
Area: Wrexham
Amount Requested: £2,500.00

Project Outline:

We are the charity arm of Wrexham AFC and our aim is to utilise football, other sports and physical activities to improve the health and well-being of individuals in Wrexham and North Wales particularly in respect of children and young people, those with disabilities and those disadvantaged/isolated from community activities.

At the moment we deliver a number of projects and programmes aimed at increasing physical activity, improving health and wellbeing, improving literacy and numeracy standards within primary and secondary schools, educating participants on diet, smoking, drugs and alcohol and supporting those with disabilities to play football.

We would like to start a new provision for young people in Wrexham aged 12-16 yrs old at Gwyn Evans sports centre in Gwersyllt and assist Active Wrexham in running a hub at Plas Madoc. After consultation with Active Wrexham, we have identified Gwersyllt and Plas Madoc as an areas we feel would benefit from this programme.
