Fatal collision near Gellilydan, Gwynedd

Sadly one person has died and another two, including a baby, have sustained serious injuries following a road traffic collision in Gwynedd earlier today (Thursday, January 11).

Shortly before 11:20am police received a report of a serious two-vehicle collision on the A487 at Gellilydan involving a lorry and a Ford Fiesta car.

Sadly, the female front seat passenger of the Fiesta was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the Fiesta has been airlifted to hospital in Stoke and the 6-month-old baby girl has been airlifted to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool. Both have sustained serious life threatening injuries.

The next of kin of all three have been informed and are being supported by police officers.

Sergeant Leigh Evans of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Sadly this is now a fatal road traffic collision investigation and our thoughts remain with the families at this time.

“We now know that four vehicles stopped to assist at the scene and we are keen on speaking to the drivers and occupants of those cars. If anybody has any information that could assist our investigation I would urge them to contact us as soon as possible.”

The A487 is due to re-open shortly.

North Wales Police are not yet in a position to release further details.
