Man sentenced following fatal collision in Trearddur Bay

A man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to causing the death of 53-year-old Gareth Wyn Roberts by careless driving in May 2018.

79-year-old Raymond Kitching of Trearddur Road, Trearddur Bay appeared at Caernarfon Magistrates Court today (Thursday, February 7th) where he was sentenced to a 16 week prison sentence suspended for two years, disqualified from driving for three years with an extended re-test, 200 hours community service and ordered to pay costs.

The collision happened at around 11:30am when Kitching’s Ford Focus was in collision with a motorcycle on Lôn Sant Ffraid, Treaddur Bay.

Gareth Roberts, who was riding the motorcycle, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

PC Arwyn Phillips of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Mr Kitching now has to live with the knowledge that his actions has resulted in the death of a much loved family man and our thoughts remain with Mr Roberts' family.

“This is a tragic case that shows how vitally important it is for motorists to give their complete and unreserved attention whilst driving.

“North Wales Police are committed to improving road safety and prioritise fatal and serious injury collisions to ensure that every effort is made to bring offenders to justice.”
