Meet your local police at Tesco, Prestatyn
Friday 11 Dec 2015
Whilst people get ready for Christmas, the local policing team in Prestatyn are keeping their community safe by carrying out extra patrols of shopping hotspots and holding crime prevention events.
The Prestatyn and Rhuddlan Neighbourhood Policing Team are carrying out daily patrols in retail hotspots such as Parc Prestatyn, looking out for opportunist thieves and shoplifters.
Sergeant Mark Jones said: “These Christmas crime prevention events are a great way for us to get to know our local residents and for us to discuss any local issues they might have.
“They are also a good opportunity to remind people of the simple steps they can take to protect themselves from becoming a victim of crime.
“At this time of year people are rushing around and they may become complacent when it comes to security.
“A significant number of reported crimes to the police involve either unlocked vehicles, items on display inside the car or a combination of both.”
“If people exercise some simple security habits, they are far less likely to become victims of this type of crime. Nothing of any value should ever be left on display inside the car, even for a short time. Little things such as a coat or a carrier bag will tempt a thief to believe that it contains something of value. If there is nothing on show, they are likely to move on; they do not want to increase their chances of being caught by spending time searching for items to steal.”
As part of their Safer Christmas initiative officers will also be on hand with their crime prevention stall at Tesco, Parc Prestatyn on Monday 14th and Monday 21st December between 11am and 5pm. Here the team will be providing personal safety and home security advice and they will also be offering free property marking.
Sgt Jones added: “If you are out and about in Prestatyn on either date, please do come along and say hello.”
