Summer activities in Caernarfon, Llanberis and Penygroes

The summer project being run by the Caernarfon Safer Neighbourhood Team is well underway with activity sessions being run in Caernarfon, Llanberis and Penygroes each week throughout the summer holidays such as zorbing, sports and games. High Sheriff Crimebeat funds have been awarded to this project to contribute towards paying for staff, coaches and the hire of venues.

There has been an increase in anti-social behaviour in Caernarfon and surrounding areas recently with groups of young people complaining of boredom leading them to congregate around shops and businesses, being disruptive and causing general anti-social behaviour.

Summer project

Due to this PCSO Siwan Humphreys started working in partnership with different sporting clubs and organisations to arrange activities for the youths to get involved in. These sessions will be open to all children between the ages of 8-16 at no cost. These activities will be open to all children rather than just those who are causing trouble because we want to reward any children who are willing to engage with North Wales Police.

PCSO Humphreys said: “Caernarfon is considered to be a deprived town and Llanberis and Penygroes are rural villages where the children and youths feel they have nothing to do. This project will instil the community with confidence that the organisation is listening to their concerns. By engaging with young people positively it will build a stronger relationship between the Safer Neighbourhood Team and the community.”

Crimebeat supports young people who want to make a difference in their communities. Crimebeat gives young people a chance to develop projects that aim to cut local crime, reduce anti-social behaviour, provide support to victims of crime, stimulate an interest in voluntary work, improve school attendance and behaviour and improve the quality of life in the community.
