We are not currently receiving applications for new police officer roles but please register your interest here and we will let you know when the next opportunity to apply begins.
Thinking of applying? What you need to know
Do you have the qualifications?
To apply to become a police constable, you must have at least one Level 3 qualification (for example, NVQ Level 3) with a minimum of a pass.
If you do not have this qualification, but feel that your current experience equates to it, there is the opportunity to take a test during the application process which will assess your suitability.
You must hold the qualification at the time of submitting your application.
We cannot accept 'expected grades', as you will need to supply copies of your certificates as part of your application.
Are you eligible?
Eligibility requirements for the police service are fairly detailed.
After registering your details in the e-recruitment system, there will be some questions to determine whether you are eligible to apply. They will cover the following topics...
You must be 18 or over at the time of submitting your application.
You need to be a British citizen, an EC/EEA national, a Commonwealth citizen, or a foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the UK.
You must have resided continuously in the UK for a three year period immediately prior to submitting your application. You cannot have been absent from the UK for more than six months during this time.
If you have been serving with the British Armed Forces or on UK Government Service, you are considered to have been resident in the UK.
We are unable to consider you if you have outstanding County Court Judgements, or a current Individual Voluntary Agreement (IVA), or have been registered bankrupt within the last three years.
Convictions or cautions
Ideally, you should not have a criminal record. If you have a conviction as an adult or a juvenile, it is unlikely that you will be suitable, although certain minor offences and cautions may not exclude you.
You will not be eligible to apply if:
- You have received a formal caution in the last five years, or have ever committed a violent crime or public order offence
- You have ever been sentenced to a term of imprisonment
- You have received a ban from driving in the last ten years, or have committed more than three motoring offences in the last five years (offences on different dates)
Membership of the British National Party (BNP) or a similar organisation
If you are a member of the BNP or a similar organisation - or have ever been a member - you are not eligible to apply.
Some tattoos are allowed, but they must not be particularly prominent, garish, offensive or undermine the dignity and authority of your role.
You’ll need to send us photos of your tattoos when you apply so we can decide whether they are acceptable.
The following are some examples of tattoos which may be considered provocative, offensive, rude, lewd, crude, violent or intimidating:
- Weapons or firearms
- Rude gestures
- Naked body/bodies or particular body parts which would normally be covered
- Figures of anger or violence, or well-known crime figures such as the Krays
- Images of death, including skulls of any kind
- Symbols of extreme organisations such as the BNP, Klu Klux Klan, Nazi party etc
- Any tattoo ridiculing a particular belief or religion
Please note that this list is not exhaustive and only indicates what the majority of people in society may find unacceptable to see on a person representing North Wales Police.
If you have applied to another police force, or applied for this role with us within the last six months then you are not eligible to apply.
You cannot apply to more than one police force at a time. If your other application is unsuccessful, you can apply to join us once six months has passed.
We need to be sure we recruit people of the highest quality, so our application process involves several challenging steps.
Even if you achieve them all, be aware that it does not automatically guarantee a position with us. We have to balance the operational needs of the Force with the number of vacancies.
If you meet the eligibility criteria and want to apply, please read through the information below for full details about the steps involved.
